I hate when bloggers or YouTube creators haul items and then never talk about them again. I mean, great you have new makeup, but that doesn’t tell me if it’s worth my money. I want to know how you feel about something after you’ve had a chance to use it for a little bit. So, that’s what I’m going to be sharing with you today. I’ve had the time to work with products I received in Ipsy/Birchbox/and shopping hauls that I’ve already talked about on the blog and today I’ll let you know my thoughts on my faves and flops. I’m not going to go over every product but I cover my hooked on and hated it, products from my hauls.
Of course, these are just my opinions so if you’re still dying to try something that I don’t care for…do it! All products were purchased by me and all opinions are my own. Now time for the standout products, good and bad!
Tarte: Lights, Camera, Splashes
In my Sephora haul, I talked about this waterproof mascara and I’ve been using the hell out of it this summer. I swam for hours with the kids in the chlorinated pool with this mascara on, swimming under water, and it goes nowhere. This mascara does need to be removed carefully with an oil based remover to avoid losing lashes but it’s fantastic!
Trust Fund Beauty Polish
I got the color Kind of a Big Deal in my February ipsy bag and totally fell in love with it this spring/summer. It’s a beautiful pink shade that looks great with a bit of a tan. The formula is fantastically opaque in just two coats and has a great wear time. You can see a pic of it on my nails here.
Davines Ol All in One Milk
This is a great leave in conditioner that I traveled with to Georgia and on weekend trips to the Poconos. It saved my hair after lake water, pool water, and extreme weather! I absolutely love this as both a rehydrating milk for the hair and also to help control frizz on days where I’m not doing much.
Crown Royal Duo Fiber Brush
This brush is fantastic for cream blush and highlighter! I love the grips on the handle that make using it feel so luxurious, too. It applies the perfect amount of product and blends it so nicely. It’s one of my favorite brushes!
This box had so many products that became favorites that I am in shock! I absolutely adore the Laura Gellar Gilded Honey Highlighter, which seriously stuns on cheeks or eyes. I also am really excited to have been able to try the Gimme Brow and really love the small brush and the shade that I got. The skin congested skin serum has made my July favorites because it’s kept my foundation-free skin looking clear and radiant!
Milani Conceal and Perfect Foundation
This is something that I looked for all over when it first launched and had mixed feelings on at first. The first few times I wore it, I loved it, but the more I wore it the more uncertain I was about it. It’s definitely a fuller coverage drugstore foundation but I absolutely fell in L-O-V-E with it when I used a damp beauty blender to apply it and set it with a soft powder. It’s gorgeous!
I did a full review of the products in my collection in this article, but I wanted to mention quickly that I love the new Megaglo Highlighting powders and Megaglow Multi-Stick that I picked up. I also picked up their setting spray at the same time along with the ombre blush in The Princess Daiquiries (yes, that’s how it is spelled) and all of them lived up to my expectations of the brand. They’re all in my everyday makeup caddy. Their 1 step gel polishes (newer to their line) are phenomenal as well!
Before I went on vacation I took advantage of a Buy-One-Get-One deal that NYX was offering and picked up two of their palettes. I got the Strobe Genius Illuminating Palette and The Go-To Palette in Wanderlust. First, let me say that there’s not a single thing about the illuminating palette that I don’t 100% love! You need it in your life. Enough said. The Wanderlust palette was my truly my go-to for the trip because it has 6 shadows, a blush, bronzer, and highlight all in one slim palette. The colors are all beautifully pigmented and my only complaint is that all the shadow shades are shimmery so it needs a companion matte palette for crease and brow bone (at least for my preferences).
OUAI Weightless Texture Mist
This was in a Sephora Play bag in July (not hauled on the blog) and it was awful! I’m not sure why but this spray was SO sticky that my hair felt like it had wet tacky hairspray on it all day long. My hair stuck together, stuck straight out, and felt hateful. This is a high-end expensive AF brand so I was really shocked. Perhaps I used it wrong or just have the wrong hair type for it, but it was awful!
BH Cosmetics #12 Blending Brush Single
I LOVE BH Cosmetics brushes! I have almost every set of brushes they have ever offered but this brush, sold as a single, is awful! It was so scratchy and hard that I couldn’t use it on my eyes without it hurting. I threw it away after washing it to see if it would soften–it didn’t.
ColourPop Super Shock Cheek Highlighter in Spoon
Maybe this one was my fault and I didn’t read the reviews and description well enough but this highlighter is SOLID glitter. I don’t like glitter on my cheeks so I can use this as a shadow but not for it’s intended use as a highlighter, which is a bummer.
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Ouiji
I love the ColourPop Ultra Matte lipsticks but this color was horrendous for me. It was patchy and wore off in an awful way. I had the classic butthole lips almost instantly with it. I tried to correct it but adding more just clumped it up. I don’t know if I got a bad one or this color is just poorly formulated but I legit can’t wear it.
That about does it for my hooked on and hated it list so far. I loved doing this piece because it allowed me to look back at hauls and unboxings and pull some things from my collection that I realized I hadn’t tried yet, or hadn’t tried enough yet. It’s important to me not just bring new stuff into my collection but also form opinions and pass on things that don’t work for me. What have you hauled lately that you are hooked on or that you hated? Share in the comments
